Bernd Michelfelder studied mechanical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe. After completing his studies, he obtained his doctorate at the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT), where he investigated high-pressure combustion processes. After completing his doctorate at the Faculty of Process Engineering at the University of Stuttgart, he worked for ten years as head of a working group in the development department of a medium-sized company. In 2009, he moved to the Energy Technology Center at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ITC) at the Karlsruhe Research Center, now the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). He was involved in the construction and commissioning of the high-pressure entrained-flow gasifier in the project office and has been its operations manager since 2011.
